Training schedule

Two-day Linux training schedule

A trainer-led sequence for Linux essentials, Bash automation, and the RTL/DV command-line workflow.

Delivery format

This foundation is designed for two instructor-led days with continued Linux use throughout RTL and Design Verification training. Each session combines a short explanation, a trainer demonstration, and learner execution in a disposable workspace.

Day 1 — Linux essentials

Session 1: Linux, terminal, and shell

Understand the Linux environment, kernel, terminal, shell, command syntax, standard streams, and exit status.

whoami
hostname
pwd
uname -a
echo "$SHELL"

Session 2: Filesystem and navigation

Work with the filesystem hierarchy, absolute and relative paths, pwd, ls, cd, and mkdir.

mkdir -p "$HOME/asiccampus-linux-lab/day1"
cd "$HOME/asiccampus-linux-lab/day1"
pwd
ls -al

Session 3: Files and source inspection

Create, copy, move, remove, identify, and inspect files with touch, cp, mv, rm, file, stat, cat, less, head, and tail.

Session 4: Search and text processing

Find source files and inspect logs with find, grep, sort, uniq, wc, pipes, and redirection.

find . -type f -name '*.sv' -print
grep -Rni '^module' rtl tb

Session 5: Users and permissions

Read ownership and permissions, apply the minimum required mode to files you own, and explain why engineering work should not run as root.

Session 6: Vim/GVim

Open, edit, search, save, and exit a small Verilog source file.

Day 1 practical result

Create an engineering workspace containing rtl/, tb/, sim/, logs/, scripts/, and docs/. Add placeholder RTL and testbench files, inspect their permissions, and find them from the project root.

Day 2 — Automation and ASIC/DV workflow

Session 1: Processes and jobs

Inspect processes and resource use, run a job in the background, and terminate only a confirmed process owned by the learner.

Session 2: Engineering environment

Use shell variables, environment variables, PATH, .bashrc, aliases, and command history without exposing credentials or overriding shared tool configuration.

Session 3: Networking and remote access

Inspect the local network and use SSH/SCP with verified hosts and approved engineering systems.

Session 4: Bash scripting

Use a shebang, arguments, variables, conditions, loops, functions, and exit codes to automate a repeatable task.

Session 5: RTL/DV command-line workflow

Organize a project, read a file list, compile RTL and testbench sources, run a simulation, save logs, inspect failures, and retain reproducible evidence.

Day 2 practical result

Create run_sim.sh that prepares an output directory, compiles approved sample RTL and testbench files, stops on compile failure, runs the simulation, captures logs, checks PASS/FAIL markers, and prints a final summary.

Completion evidence

A learner should be able to demonstrate navigation, file handling, search, permissions, editor use, process inspection, environment setup, safe remote access, Bash automation, simulation execution, log analysis, and artifact organization. Command execution and observable results are required; screenshots alone are insufficient.
